Abstract
Performance evaluations of three phase diagnostic radiologic equipment indicate the need for a reassessment of the concept of exposure time. Measurements of exposure time as defined by the equipment manufacturer (kV pulse width at 75% of peak value) demonstrates a lack of proportionality between exposure time and radiation intensity. In this paper, a method of determining an effective exposure time is presented. This effective time is defined as teff = tind + ▵t, where tind is the time indicated at the control and At is the correction required to achieve proportionality. Measurements show a wide variation in the value of At among different manufacturers and for different operating conditions, ranging from 0 to 6 ms.
