Abstract
Optical systolic array processing algorithms and architectures that may be appropriate for the high-speed real-time linear estimation of scalar data sequences are considered. A Kalman-filter-based algorithm for the linear prediction of such sequences is described and analyzed using simple computer simulations, and possible optical systolic array processor hardware implementations of this algorithm are briefly discussed. The overall goal is the optimization of prediction speed and accuracy as a function of the assumed order of a linear model and practical constraints such as system power consumption, size, reliability, and cost.
