Abstract
The template effect on stability of multi-phase twist structure liquid crystals was investigated. If a cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) of different pitch was refilled into CLC template, the refilling CLC and intrinsic T-CLC can co-exist in the template. If a blue phase liquid crystal (BPLC) of different pitch was refilled into the CLC template, only the intrinsic T-CLC appeared. And if a CLC of different pitch was refilled into BPLC template, both the refilling CLC and intrinsic T-BPLC appeared in the template. However, if a BPLC of different pitch was refilled into the BPLC template, only the intrinsic T-BPLC appeared. The multi-phase and multi-pitch twist LC device can be fabricated with the templating process which shows great potential applications in optical communication, display, and LC lasing.
