Abstract
The paper discusses the design of the instrument for measuring the cloud lower boundary and describes its testing. The system is based on a coaxial optical scheme. The probing beam and the receiving channel are separated using a folding mirror. The receiving and the transmitting channels are partially combined. The system uses a 905 nm laser diode, with a multimode fiber and collimating optics. The optical scheme is based on refracting optics. The diameter of the receiving aperture is 100 mm. The results of experimental testing of the device under various weather conditions are also presented.
