Abstract
Cities usually set up bus-only lanes regularly in expressways reserved for buses to cope with the complex and changing urban traffic demand. To avoid the waste of road resources caused by starting bus-only lanes during the morning and evening peak hours, this paper takes controlling the total travel delay as the criterion for bus-only lane opening time improvement, considering the case of buses and cars merging into the main road traffic from the secondary roads, establishes an opening time model, and use the artificial ecosystem algorithm to optimize the opening time of the bus lane and compare the opening time and the corresponding delay changes under different demands during peak hours and off-peak hours. The results show that when the hourly arrival rate of vehicles before and after the peak hour is certain, starting the bus-only lane after the start of the peak hour and stopping using the bus-only lane after the end of the peak hour can minimize the total travel delay, ensure the priority of public transportation, and improve the efficiency of traffic travel.
