Abstract
The Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system can effectively keep drivers away from the danger of rearward collision, but the level of the RCTA system varies from vehicle to vehicle. There is a lack of a common test method to verify whether the RCTA system is effective. In this paper, by analyzing the functional principles and solutions of RCTA, the testing and evaluation method of the RCTA system including vehicle, pedestrian Adult, pedestrian child, and bicycle scenarios is designed and built. In addition, three different vehicles were selected for validation tests, and the results showed that the designed scenarios can well validate the RCTA system, which is meant for testing and evaluating the RCTA system of vehicles.
