Abstract
An accurate analytical integral expression for coupling efficient between rectangular and circular optical waveguides is given with the help of coupled mode theory. The coupling coefficients for rectangular E*11 mode and cylindrical HE11 mode between two parallel waveguides are calculated, the functional relation between coupling coefficient C*11.1 and normalized frequency V1 for rectangular waveguide and normalized frequency V2 for cylindrical step index waveguide is given, the corresponding curves for dielectric slab waveguide and optical fiber are also given.
