A new conept for the generation of a gas discharge plasma is under investigation. This new gas discharge is based on a high frequency plasma which is a electrode less configuration. To achieve a high density, the plasma is confined by a magnetic quadrupole field. The energy deposition into the plasma was performed by cw-inductive coupling per antenna. The plasma is protected from the tube wall and is relatively independent of the tube size. A tuneable high frequency amplifier with a maximum power of 300 W is used in a frequency range between 10-45 MHz. During operation a bright plasma with pronounced edges was observed in the center of the magnetic quadrupole. For this configuration an electron temperature between 1.1 to 1.2 eV has been measured.
