At present, video communication is mostly two-dimensional communication, and holographic immersive communication
cannot be realized. With the advent of the 5G era, relying on the high-speed and low-latency characteristics of 5G networks,
holographic communication that integrates human-computer interaction technology, artificial intelligence, sensor
technology, holographic projection display technology, etc., can completely break the boundaries between local and remote
spaces, and provide users with an immersive communication experience. In this paper, we combine holographic imaging
technology to introduce the definition of holographic communication, and summarize the exploration results of major
research institutions in this field in recent years. Finally, the system framework and key technologies of holographic
communication are analyzed. Through the investigation of the difficulties in holographic communication technology, we
have summarized the future technical research directions.
