Abstract
A prebunched beam has been used to further increase the efficiency of our axis-encircling high harmonic gyrotron. The experiment was performed at the third harmonic with a TE312 mode at 27.7 GHz. The conversion power was 6.7 kW which was significantly greater than that of the non-prebunched experiment. Also, mode competition was substantially reduced. The dependence of the output power on the square of current has been verified . The start of oscillation current is effectively zero.
