Asian dust is generated and transferred subsequently over long distances every year. This phenomenon affects significantly the environment, agriculture, and health of people. Lidar sensing plays a leading role in studies of this phenomenon, since it allows the spatio-temporal distribution of optical characteristics of the dust and its effect on the propagation of solar radiation in the Earth's atmosphere to be registered. Taking into account these possibilities, a multiwave high resolution lidar has been designed and constructed for studying Asian dust. The lidar is mounted in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. Preliminary measurements showed the effectiveness of the proposed lidar concept. Mendeleev Fund Program and the Korea Meteorological Administration Research and Development Program (Grant No. KMI2017-6030).
