Abstract
In order to study the influence of hopper angle α at the bottom of silo on the segregation of mixture, the response surface experiment was designed to calibrate the parameters of mixture, and the hopper drop process of silo was simulated by discrete element software EDEM. Near-Neighbor Separation Index (NNSI) was used to analyze the distribution uniformity of 4.75 mm particles in the mixture. The correlation between NNSI and α was established and the results show that in the range of 50°~60°, α has a good correlation with NNSI, because the correlation coefficient of quadratic polynomial regression reaches 0.92. When α is at 55˚, the particle uniformity of 4.75 mm is the worst. While α is at both ends of the interval, the particle uniformity of 4.75 mm is the best. The reason for the change of uniformity is that the change of α affects the velocity component νxy at the X-Y plane of the particle velocity at the outlet. When α is close to 55˚, the fluctuation of νxy is larger than that at 50˚ and 60˚. The results of this paper can be used for reference for the improvement of hopper in silo, and the research method can be used to study other mixtures.
