Abstract

Cameras and LiDARs are widely used in the important problem of visual coverage due to their advantages. However, most existing results consider the coverage metrics for cameras and LiDARs separately, and few studies focus on the modeling of camera-LiDAR sensor. In this paper, a geometric model of camera-LiDAR sensor is established firstly, and six effective criteria are then proposed to address the coverage performance of the camera-LiDAR sensor. A generic coverage task of camera-LiDAR sensor network for a target object is presented, and a gradient ascent algorithm is proposed to optimize the deployment of the camera-LiDAR sensors for good coverage performance. A simulation is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the constructed model and the proposed method.
