Abstract
Signal timing at urban intersections is a key factor affecting the overall traffic efficiency of intersections and road networks. Time segment and periodic control is a commonly used and effective control method. Based on the K-means clustering method, combined with the spatial-temporal characteristics of intersection traffic flow and the key influencing factors of signal timing. This paper studies the impact of different sample data on the intersection time-segmented timing plan, and selects four samples: the flow of all lanes at the intersection, the average flow of a single lane with the same lane function, data for a single day of the week and full data for seven days a week for clustering time division, timing plan design and simulation evaluation of intersection operation efficiency. The results show that the K-means clustering results based on the four sample data are significantly different. The average queuing and average delay of the intersection of using the average flow of a single lane with the same lane function for clustering and signal timing plan design, are generally less than the design plan after clustering using the flow of all lanes at the intersection; under the same single lane average flow with the same lane function, the cluster timing plan on a typical day of the week (such as Wednesday) is 30% lower than the cluster timing scheme with all data seven days a week, and the average queue length at the intersection is not much different.
