Abstract
Privacy and security of multimedia data such as images has been an important concern particularly after the extensive use of digital devices in people’s daily life. Therefore, more and more researchers put their attention on investigating new secure image encryption algorithms. However, many of the existing encryption methods contain the issues of computational overhead, substantial time complexity or low resistance to cryptanalytic attacks. To address these issues, we propose a new encryption algorithm strategically constructing a 3D array from pixel array of the plaintext image and utilizing the chaotic logistic map, the AES substitution box, and linear mixing. Performance of the proposed scheme is validated through analyzing the information entropy, histogram, correlation coefficients between adjacent pixels and mean squared errors of ciphertext images. The results exhibited superior randomness and unpredictability of the encrypted image. Besides, the algorithm manifested strong resistance against the differential attacks.
