Abstract
We propose a "Mixed Dual Dial (MDD)" method for Japanese character input by flick input using two VR controllers in VR environments. In MDD method, a Japanese consonant is selected by flicking the touch pad of one VR controller with one finger. The MDD method allows the users to display always all Japanese consonants from line A to line W, which improves the accessibility to the line where the desired character belongs compared to the conventional methods. This paper reports on 14 mid-term experiments and 28 long-term experiments conducted to verify that the input performance of the proposed method improves as the user becomes more proficient in its operation.
