Abstract
Satellite Internet technology has emerged as a critical player in providing global connectivity, particularly in areas where traditional terrestrial infrastructure is challenging to deploy. Satellite Internet enables high-speed data transmission by leveraging communication satellites orbiting the Earth. These satellites serve as crucial nodes in a global network, facilitating internet access in remote or underserved regions. However, the inherent challenges of satellite communication, such as latency and energy limit, have prompted the development of advanced routing techniques to optimize data flow. To improve satellite Internet performance, this paper proposes a geolocation-based routing system. Furthermore, based on the system, we propose an energy-efficient distributed routing algorithm. The integration of Georoute in satellite Internet networks contributes to improved load balancing and fault tolerance. The dynamic adaptation of routing paths based on real-time conditions ensures efficient data delivery and minimizes the impact of disruptions. As the demand for reliable and high-performance global connectivity continues to grow, satellite Internet combined with Georoute emerges as a viable solution to bridge the digital divide and provide seamless internet access across diverse geographical landscapes. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm, we build a testbed driven by public constellation information and implement the prototype on top of the testbed. Extensive realistic-data-driven simulations demonstrate that our algorithm can significantly improve the network throughput and reduce the satellite energy consumption as compared to other approaches.
