Abstract
The paper presents a new approath for edge nhanement. It onstruts an edge nhanernent's function which r1ies on grey information attached to th local area in the 2—dimensional image. This function can enhance dgs in the image and determine the direction of the edges .Mathematical analysis show that the commonly used operator of Sobel is a special case of this method. It's proved by the microcomputer image processing system that the method work well for a variety of images. In addition. it can be implemented by parallel processing and be easy implemented by hardware. The speed of implementation also demonstrates that it is practical for many applica tions.
