In the present work a theoretical study of the Sagnac effect is carried out in the intrinsic coordinate system of the rotating observer which is obtained, in an elegant way, from the Frenet-Serret tetrad defined along the observer's woridline. The approach provides a completely general formulation of the problem and clarifies the influence of the observer's acceleration in the output fringe shift.
