Optical Telecommunication Technologies and Systems
Applying direct error counting, we assess the performance of 20 Gbit/s wavelength-division multiplexing return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying (RZ-DPSK) transmission at 0.4 bit/(s Hz) spectral efficiency for application on installed non-zero dispersion-shifted fibre based transoceanic submarine systems. The impact of the pulse duty cycle on the system performance is investigated and the reliability of the existing theoretical approaches to the BER estimation for the RZ-DPSK format is discussed.

High level of optical radiation in optical fiber due to utilization of optical amplifiers causes an interaction of strong electromagnetic field with fiber core material. As a result of this interaction different nonlinear effects in optical fiber may occur. In this paper FWM effect is investigated. Methods that can be used to reduce deteriorations caused by this type of nonlinear interaction between optical signals and fiber core material are researched. Suggested FWM reducing system is presented.

Fiber optic telecommunication systems with duplex data transmitting over single fiber require reflection minimization. Method of material dispersion account for calculation of optical fiber chromatic dispersion is presented. Calculation of
chromatic dispersion slopes for fibers with refractive index profiles, for which analytical decisions and experimental data
of chromatic dispersion slopes are known, is performed by an offered method and using traditional method. On the basis
of the comparative analysis the estimation of adequacy of the offered method is given.

Design of differential mode delay (DMD)-compensating silica GeO2-doped graded-index multimode fibers with reverse DMD, or so-called reverse DMD fibers (RDMDFs), is presented. DMD-compensating is based on assumption, that initial array of excited mode group velocities of compensated fiber should be reversed in reference to the slowest mode. It is proposed to obtain effect of reverse DMD by fiber profile optimization. Objective function is represented as a sum of squares of deviations between points, corresponding to radial mode orders, of ideal desired reverse group velocity diagram and diagram of current iteration. An extension of modified Gaussian approximation generalized for any order guided mode, propagating along weakly guiding optical fibers with an arbitrary axial-symmetric refractive index profiles, was developed to apply for design RDMDFs. Solution based on proposed method is described. Results of RDMDF design are presented, including optimized refractive index profiles and comparing results between desired ideal mode group velocity diagram and distribution of velocities between guided modes propagating along designed RDMDF.

In the given article research of calculation errors, caused by modeling of fiber refractive index profile by ideal step index
function with discontinuity on an bound of layers, for parameters of spectral characteristics for the step index optical
fibers are performed. Conclusion of expressions for corrections is described. Errors of estimations for chromatic
dispersion parameter and zero wavelength depending on kind of smoothing function and smoothing parameter are

The paper contains the results of simulation of Raman optical amplifiers with copropagating and counterpropagating pumping. The computer program was developed to calculate signals and noise of amplified spontaneous emission for various lengths of amplifier sections. The various applications of optical amplifiers allowing to increase regenerator section length are considered. The results of calculations are of interest to the designers of long-haul fiber-optic communication systems.

In this article it is shown that Helmholtz equations describe a special case of spherical symmetric fields of the
electromagnetic field from the whole range of vortical fields. The author considers the solution of the wave equation and
shows that Helmholtz equations give a good approximation for spacially 1-D and 2-D structures. However, they give
quite different results under the analysis and calculations for 3-D structures.

A new simulation method for optical pulse distortion in macro-bends of single-mode optical fiber with coating layer is
presented. The pulse distortion in macro-bends of standard single mode fibers are investigated theoretically, showing that
the pulse distortion in macro-bends can make bit errors for optical communication systems with high bit rate. The
simulation technique is validated by comparison with exact solution for macro-bend losses of standard single mode fiber.

One-Dimension and Multidimension Optical Signals Data Processing
Fractal approach to mathematical modelling of signals in space optical observation systems is proposed. The scannings of two-dimensional images as one-dimensional stochastic fractal processes are built on the base of Brownian motion. Integrals over trajectories of Wiener processes with different kernels are used for modeling of one-dimensional stochastic fractals and multifractals. Modelling of scannings of remotely sensed data based on formalism of integrals over Wiener stochastic process trajectories and modelling of probabilistic characteristics based on formalism of Feynman continual integrals are performed. Algorithms of multiscale detection of signals on the basis of discrete and continuous wavelet transforms are developed and applied for anomaly detection and estimation.

For effective analysis of optical signals it is important to obtain the parameters of their structural properties, variation
coefficient, excess, asymmetric coefficient can be used for this purposes. The use of variation coefficient is being
possible when at comparatives analysis of structurally similar signals. That in why the variation coefficient would be
implied at structural analysis of optical signals in the same intervals found. There are properties of factors variations of
distributions probabilities critically investigated for their use in applied problems of the statistical analysis. Their greatest
information is shown for structural properties of distributions of modules of a deviation from an average values of
investigated laws of distributions.

In paper methodological aspects of symmetric double frequency reflectometry system for fiber Bragg structure control
are discussed. Amplitude phase conversion method for forming double frequency oscillations from harmonic signals is
proposed. This method is based on the fact that phase modulation with certain indexes could decrease an amplitude of
initial frequency and produce two symmetric side lobes. Basics of amplitude phase conversion of coherent single
frequency radiation to double frequency and its distinguished features of frequency-shifted spectral components
symmetrical position relatively suppressed frequency of initial radiation, high level of spectral purity, stable output
radiation, and high conversion ratio are illustrated. Information structure of symmetric double frequency signal is also
considered.
