In the previous chapter, we described the basics of calculating the spectral transmittance though the Earth’s atmosphere using PcModWin©. Besides transmittance, another popular atmospheric modeling parameter is the resulting scattered radiance created within a path from some point in sky or space, or from the Earth’s surface, to a remote sensor, or both the transmittance and resulting radiance from this path. This chapter will discuss how to calculate the total and component radiances that can be created by the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface, as well as the losses they may experience. This material applies to both solar and lunar illumination.
