Abstract
An overview of IR fibers is presented, including prospective crystalline and vitreous materials; fiber fabrication methods such as drawing from preforms, crucible draw, pedestal growth, and extrusion; and applications such as ultralong repeaterless links, IR imaging, and IR power transmission.
