A single-frequency continuous wave diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser emitting high-quality polarized beam at 914 nm is
presented. An intracavity etalon with a free spectral range of 500 GHz was used to obtain single-mode operation in a
short linear cavity. Smooth frequency tuning over a range of 5GHz was demonstrated. A laser output of 300 mW was
obtained at the half frequency of the 1S0→3P1 transition of Mg24 atoms (327.830 THz). The second harmonic of this
laser can be used for high-resolution spectroscopy of magnesium atoms.
