Dr. Miao spent the last 8 years in the applied research Industry before retiring from Hong Kong University of Sciences and Technology in Sept 2019. During his tenure at HKUST, he devoted all his time and energy in entrepreneurship education and establish the platform for tech-transfer between Univesity research to Industries as General Director and Adjunct Professor of HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute and Graduate School, respectively.
Before founding Aether Systems Inc., (www.aether-systems.com), an optical technology company. Dr. Miao served as Associate Vice President in LITEON Technology, managing the New Business Development and Emerging Product Group in OPTO SBG. Also, he served as a business and technology consultant for Taiwan ITRI and HK ASTRI in recent years;
Previously, he held various senior technical and management positions at Quantum Corp, KLA-Tencor, PerkinElmer, and Kaiser Electronics in his 20 years professional career at US high-tech industries. Has been an entrepreneur with a passion for emerging new technologies. He has led several spin-off operations within the big organization as part of "changes for better" in principle.
