We experimentally evidence optical van der Pol (VdP) waveforms based on the modulation of a laser diode with a simple autonomous VdP electronic circuit. Sinusoidal and relaxation optical oscillations are obtained. Furthermore, optical relaxation pulses are easily generated based on the nonlinearity of the laser diode. Important applications in research, engineering, and technology are discussed.
We present a theoretical and experimental study of novel architectures of optoelectronic oscillators that have a nonlinear response in the electric branch. We perform a nonlinear analysis and obtain a good comparison between our theoretical results and the experimental measurements.
