Profile Summary

Dr. Terence Wong obtained his BA (First Class Hons) and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Cambridge in 1987 and 1992. He was lecturer at the Department of Electronic Engineering, Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1992-1994. Since 1994, he has been with the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University Singapore as Associate Professor. He has served as Program Lead for the joint MSc Green Electronics since 2011. Dr. Wong's research interest include applying various printing techniques (screen, wire wound rod coating and pad stamping) to fabricate electroluminescent devices. His other research project was on organic photovoltaics. Low band gap polymers and soluble small molecules are used as donors in bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic devices. When blended with functionalized fullerenes, the resulting devices have power conversion efficiencies up to 8.28% for AM 1.5G simulated solar radiation. The conversion efficiencies were enhanced by adding Au-silica nanorods into the donor-acceptor blends. The enhancement mechanism makes use of the surface plasmon resonance of the Au nanostructures. At present, Dr. Wong's team is working on kesterite semiconductors (CZTS) for earth abundant thin film photovoltaics. This research includes suppressing the back contact reaction by intermediate layers and doping of the CZTS to enhance conversion efficiency. Dr. Wong is a senior member of SPIE, IEEE and has served as guest editor for a special issue of the journal Materials.
