A LD end-pumped Nd:YVO4 crystal quasi-continuous-wave narrow-pulse-width laser was reported. In order to develop a seed source laser that meets the airborne single photon ranging requirements, the various actively Q-switched methods output performances was compared and analyzed. And a small seed source laser with narrow-pulse-width, high-beam-quality suitable for airborne environment was proposed. At 10 kHz repetition rate, A-O Q-switched mode obtains laser with pulse width of 4.56 ns, high beam quality of M2/x = 1.208 , 2 M2/y = 1.203 , the optical-optical conversion efficiency of 44.4%, and it will be used as seed source of the Main Oscillation Power Amplifier (MOPA) system.
