Abstract
Common phototherapies using sensitized reactions are based on the excitation of the sensitizer to its T1 state. In this paper the reactivity of Hematoporphyrin excited states higher in energy than T1 is investigated using Tryptophan as substrate. Hematoporphyrin is shown to sensitize Tryptophan photodegradation more effectively when it is pumped to either singlet or triplet states higher than S1 or T1, respectively.
