The topology of an open-winding permanent magnet synchronous motor is usually to open the star terminal of the motor and use double inverters to supply power on both sides of the motor. Usually, the main inverter is supplied by a DC power supply, and the secondary inverter can use multiple power supply methods, such as a DC power supply, large capacitors in series, etc. Among them, the method of connecting the large capacitor on the DC side of the secondary inverter can provide the reactive power required for motor operation and increase the output power factor of the main inverter, thereby increasing the voltage at the motor end and extending the motor operating range. This has broad application prospects in large-capacity wide and variable-speed applications. This paper takes surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors as the research object, and the characteristics of improving the power factor of the main inverter and extending the operating range are studied.
