Abstract
The structures will be protected from seismic damage and wind induced damage, so the response of structures must be reduced significantly. Based on the shape memory effect and the pseudo-elastic characteristics of SMA, the damper devices are developed and it can well resolve the problems that mentioned in some other energy dissipation devices. In this paper, a new self-adaptive damper is brought forward and its control strategy is explained. Application of pseudo-elasticity property of SMA in the control procedure is discussed. The design method and structure of this damper are presented. The install position on muti-freedom structures of this device is discussed, and then a shaking table experiments is conducted for a steel structure model with this SMA self-adaptive damper. The results of experiment indicate the damper not only exhibit significant damping capability, but also has a high self-adaptive ability.
