The reduced-order spectral-element time-domain method based on the proper orthogonal decomposition method is proposed to solve the electromagnetic scattering problem based on wave equation. The spectral-element time-domain method has been proved to have the advantages of high precision and block-diagonal mass matrix, so it is widely used to solve the electromagnetic scattering problem. The POD basis is obtained by the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the correlation matrix, which is created by the snapshot matrix whose columns are the snapshot vectors extracted from the SETD simulation. It is proved that the method can reduce the computational cost on the basis of maintaining an acceptable accuracy. Numerical results demonstrate the advantage of the reduced-order SETD method.
