Re3+ (Re= Ce3+, Tb3+) doped and co-doped lutetium oxyorthosilicate Lu2SiO5 (LSO) optical films were prepared by Pechini sol-gel method combined with spin-coating technique. The luminescence properties were analyzed by measuring the excitation and emission spectra in the UV. The results indicated that the Ce3+ excitation bands in the region from 220 to 360nm attributed to the 4f−5d transition of Ce3+. Tb3+ excitation bands in the region from 220 to 250nm were due to the 4f−5d transitions of Tb3+. The emission spectra showed the characteristic emission of 5D1−2FJ (J=7/2,5/2) transition for Ce3+5 and D4→7FJ (J = 3, 4, 5, 6) transition for Tb3+. Energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ was observed and discussed.
