The oasis is a special landscape in arid areas, which plays important ecological role in arid and semi-arid geographic system. The matter, energy and information frequently exchange at its interface, and it is the primary human habitat in arid areas. The oasis ecosystem is fragile, with the intensification of human’s activity, the system will change more and more unstable. Based on the advanced technique of remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS), the goal of this paper is to develop an integrated system to dynamically regulate the oasis ecosystem to serve the sustainable oasis development. In this paper we describe the concept, structure, function and application of the oasis regulation system, and develop a group of models to explain and simulate supply-demand process of water and soil resources. The water supply model can calculate the available water resources of ground water and surface water. The water demand model can estimate the total water demand including agricultural water, ecological water, and other water demand. The system balance model can balance the water demand and water supply by regulating the usage of water resource and land use structure. The system is established on the base of a database including topographical, meteorological, hydrological, land use, social economic and some other special data, and multi-temporal remote sensing images are dynamic data source. The system will be used for studying the relationship between water resource usage and ecosystem development in oasis, and which will be helpful for oasis planning, management, and monitoring to realize its stable and sustainable development.
